We can’t exactly say what’s in the air over at Apple headquarters in Cupertino, California, but we’re starting to feel worried. That’s because a number of fallacies with regard to the iPod Touch 4G have been found — and I can already hear the fanboys and fangirls say, “that’s so unlike Apple!”

Today, 9to5Mac has published a post which notes that the iPod Touch 4G may sport an “emergency call” feature, based on a promotional image on the Apple website. We highly doubt Apple would implement this so-called feature for two reasons: First, who in the world is going to want to make an emergency call with FaceTime? Second, FaceTime only operations [on the iPod Touch 4G] on WiFi only, making the feature useless in areas of no connectivity. As a matter of fact, I can already smell the lawsuits that could brew up because of this: “I was in the basement and I pressed the ‘emergency call’ button on my iPod Touch and it didn’t work ’cause I didn’t have no WiFi signal.’”

We’ll let you make your own mind on that one. This next one, however, I’m pretty sure you’ll agree that it’s definitely a Photoshop faux-pas:

Did you catch that? A ‘phone’ icon on an iPod Touch? It sure is! Only you can bet this won’t be on your beloved copy of the iPod Touch — ever. Otherwise, it would be an iPhone!

Expect Apple to soon clean these up. As always, we’ll be following Apple closely and keeping you informed along the way.

A fairly undocumented feature in the new iPod touch is the ability for the device to vibrate like the iPhone. It seems this vibrate function was designed with the deaf in mind, as its primary use is vibrating when a FaceTime is received. Apple markets FaceTime as the perfect way to have a phone call using sign language, and vibrate helps hard-of-hearing users know when a call is incoming.

No word on whether this vibrate function can be used in games and such like on iPhones but hopefully we’ll find that out soon. Another change in this year’s iPod touch is the absence of the plastic WiFi antenna strip. It will be interesting to see if it has any affect on signal strength.

We’re soon to find out, folks. One thing is for sure, however; the iPod Touch 4G is seemingly one step closer to actually becoming a phone.
